THE UPSIDE DOWN PEACH

Industrial and Chinoiserie

Restaurant design celebrating the juxtaposition between Boston and Georgia

The Upside Down Peach: Projects

THE
CLIENT

A young couple who were born and raised in Georgia, moved to Boston to fulfill their dreams of opening a restaurant to showcase their shared love of cooking southern-style food. Upon their move to the busy city of Boston, they quickly realized how their traditional “Southern Charm” upbringing contrasted with the industrial city life. To them this contrast was intriguing, and they wanted to center the interior design concept around juxtaposing the two. As young entrepreneurs themselves and recognizing that their main customer base would be the tenants that work in the building, they wanted to cater to the culture of lunch outings on a workday. Overall, they wanted to create a transportation from the steel city to the wonder, color, and comfort of the “Southern Charm” aesthetic.

THE CONCEPT

The end goal for the design of The Upside Down Peach is to celebrate the differences in the classic “Southern Charm” aesthetic and the industrial feeling you get in a city like Boston. This will be accomplished by taking inspiration from the Chinoiserie style; Chinese origin, vibrant and use of patterns, to represent the feminine “Southern Charm” and juxtaposing it with the use of steel and hard lines. The industrial entryway will act as a compressive passageway to the vibrant environment in the back of the space, creating different experiences and a feeling of escapism.
