Apartment 303
Eccentric Comfort
Mixed-use residential space invoking fun and connecting family
THE
CLIENT
Elizabeth, 30, and Benjamin, 32, are married with a three-year-old daughter Charlotte. They met in college where Beth studied graphic design and Ben studied teaching. They spent most of their 20’s in fast-paced New York. There Beth worked as a freelance graphic designer and Ben went back to school to get his masters. Now, they are relocating to the city of Boston where Beth will start her new job just over the bridge at Google and Ben will be starting as a linguistics professor at MIT this summer. While their move will take them out of the crazy city they love, they are excited to start this next chapter to slow down and focus on family.
THE CONCEPT
The goal of the design is to create a sense of inclusion where career, comfort, imagination, and family can all be celebrated. Allowing keyspaces to be adaptable in function will integrate work into daily life. Focus will be put on using comfortable, inviting furniture and a neutral color palette which will ground the design. Using fun pops of color and whimsical art pieces will inspire, delight, and keep the space youthful. Bonding the family room and kitchen spaces will act as the heart of the home which will unite the family. Overall the space will evoke happiness in all aspects of life.
